Everyone in fashion knows that products don’t always follow the original plan. Whether suppliers change, materials get substituted, or deliveries arrive under different conditions is almost irrelevant – what truly matters is capturing those deviations as part of the product’s history.
Yet, many Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are built around product information defined earlier in the lifecycle, often before the goods have been shipped and received.
As transparency and reporting expectations intensify, businesses need to know that their product records are faithful to not just what was intended, but also what happened.

Any DPP worth its salt depends on data pulled directly from your product development and supply chain processes. Not every DPP waits until goods have been shipped and received before creating those records, though.
The same SKU could arrive via air and sea, or a supplier could subtitute a material to meet demand on time. These are normal occurrences but they do have implications.
When those changes are averaged, overwritten, lost, or not preserved as part of the product’s history, proving exactly what happened for reporting purposes becomes significantly harder.
