Spotting trends is only half the challenge for online fashion retailers. Acting on them fast before they fade into obscurity is the other. Working with Microsoft, ASOS is applying AI and cloud technologies across product development, merchandising, customer experience and business operations to help teams move faster. By combining trend analysis, centralised data and AI-powered workflows, the retailer can take a fashion idea from concept to shelf in as little as three weeks while improving decision-making across the business.

ASOS has built its reputation on responding quickly to changing consumer tastes, but maintaining that agility becomes increasingly difficult as both customer expectations and operational complexity grow. When trends can emerge and disappear within weeks, teams are under significant pressure to identify the right opportunities early and bring products to market quickly.

To maintain this pace, ASOS has consolidated business data into a central repository on Microsoft Azure, giving teams easier access to trusted information while reducing the challenges associated with having multiple versions of the same data. The result is faster access to insights and fewer barriers to decision-making across the organisation.

Those insights play an important role in product creation. AI is used to analyse social media and internal business data to identify emerging fashion trends, helping design and buying teams spot opportunities earlier. Combined with 3D design technology, which reduces reliance on physical sampling during early development, ASOS has streamlined the journey from concept to production and can bring new ideas to market in around three weeks.

Beyond product development, ASOS is also using Microsoft technologies to simplify processes across finance and supply chain operations, including inventory management and purchasing activities. The retailer believes reducing complexity in these areas will allow teams to spend less time on administration and more time responding to customers and market demand.
